About the Role

Our plastic injection client is in search of Production Supervisor. The successful candidate will supervises and co-ordinates the activities of molding technicians, machine operators and other personnel involved in the production of components according to established quality standards for the automotive industry. 


Additional responsibilities include: 

  • Undertake and supervise the set-up and installation of molds on programmable injection molding machines and directs the day to day production activities of a three shift operation.

  • Startup / shut down of the machines and process adjustments when required.

  • Troubleshoot production equipment and directs remedial action to resolve any manufacturing problems.

  • Determine manpower requirements and allocates resources to optimize production throughput.

  • Recommend measures to improve work methods, equipment utilization, product quality and overall plant efficiency.

  • Prepare reports detailing production progress against plan.

  • Co-ordinate maintenance activities for molds and processing equipment.

  • Train or arrange for the training of workforce and advises current company policies and expectations to individual production personnel.

  • Assign respective duties to production personnel, recommends personnel actions regarding promotions, transfer, discharge or disciplinary measures.

  • Accountable for the health and safety of employees under his supervision, by ensuring that machinery and equipment is safe, making sure that employees work in compliance with established safe work practices and procedures and providing adequate training for employees in specific work tasks to help reduce or eliminate the risk of workplace injuries.

  • Assign startup and tool changes duties on a daily basis to set-up staff and ensure that these tasks are performed safely within allocated time frame. Assist set-up staff on these tasks as necessary.

  • Ensure that operators are familiar with the particular job procedures and that they are aware of the safety systems.

  • Ensure that on a daily basis set-up staff is up to date with production requirements.

  • Take necessary steps to ensure that proper support staff is called in to solve problems in order to minimize production interruption.

  • Report any downtime to the Production Control and Operations Managers; keep an accurate track of machine utilization on a daily basis.

  • Ensure that the proper support staff gets all the information on the issues related to equipment repairs and tool repairs and request feedback from them for completion time

  • Take necessary measures to keep the shop floor clean on a daily basis.

  • Adjust machines and equipment as required

  • Ensure that proper paperwork is completed as required

  • Perform any other duties as required pursuant to the function of this position as directed

  • This role will report directly to Operations Manager


Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Post secondary technology diploma (or equivalent training and/or experience)

  • An ability to solve manufacturing and production problems to meet or exceed daily production volumes is essential

  • Comprehensive knowledge of all aspects in troubleshooting of plastic injection presses, cooling systems and other machinery used in plastic injection manufacturing industry

  • Mechanical aptitude

  • Job task planning and organizing abilities

  • Supervisory experience

  • Knowledge of Plex database applicable to job function
