About the Role

Our client in food industry is looking to hire a Health and Safety Specialist. The sucessful candidate will be managing compliance to Health and Safety regulations of the company. 


Additional responsibilities includes:

  • Lead and oversee the development, implementation, and ongoing maintenance of the Safety manual

  • Communicate, coach, and assist the management team and employees to ensure that all safety expectations are understood and met

  • Creation and use of the metric results to actively seek improvement opportunities and implement preventative measures

  • Ensure the company meets its statutory obligations in all areas pertaining to health, safety, and welfare at work, including statutory training and reporting

  • Act as a representative of the company during government visits related to Health and Safety compliance

  • Act as a resource to, or serve as, a member on the Joint Health and Safety Committee and coordinate resolution of action items identified

  • Ensure that incidents are investigated thoroughly and effectively to determine root cause and corrective actions where necessary and to ensure that incident corrective actions are followed up on and completed

  • Develop annual health and safety plans for the site based on a full review of health and safety-related needs (assessment of hazards, analysis of database, audits, changing legislation and best practices) as required by all applicable legislations

  • Review relevant legislation, amendments, and best practices to optimize health and safety and environmental programs


Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Completed Post Secondary education in Occupational Health and Safety or any related field

  • 5 years' minimum working experience in Health and Safety in a manufacturing industry

  • Health and Safety certifications will be an asset

  • Proficiency in MS Office
